Reviving Tradition in the Bergdorf Goodman Holiday Windows
Having the privilege to assist in designing and crafting the world-renowned Bergdorf Goodman holiday windows in New York City was a momentous experience. My collaboration with acclaimed artist John Gordon Gauld allowed me to blend traditional and modern techniques to create these iconic windows.
Objective
Our goal was to revamp the Bergdorf Goodman holiday windows into captivating works of art. Collaborating closely with artist John Gordon Gauld, we set out to merge contemporary vector-based graphics with intricate hand-stained floor designs. Additionally, we visualized and painted over 15 miniature sets inspired by classic Art Deco references and the forgotten art of Hollywood-painted backdrops. Our work combined traditional and modern techniques, resulting in an artistic and detailed transformation of the holiday windows.
Conclusion
The Bergdorf Goodman holiday windows, an annual symbol of New York City's holiday spirit, became an enchanting blend of tradition and innovation. Through my collaboration with artist John Gordon Gauld, I managed to infuse these windows with a unique charm that paid homage to classic design elements. The artistry of the vector-based graphics and hand-stained floor designs harmoniously integrated with the charming miniature sets, rekindling the forgotten art of Hollywood-painted backdrops.
